About the Program in Biomedical Engineering.
The Program in Biomedical Engineering and Medical Physics at UMass Medical School is an interdisciplinary group of UMass faculty members with a common interest in biomedical research. Members of the program have diverse research interests. However, 3 major research areas: Imaging, Biomechanics, and Tissue Engineering, are strongly represented among our members. We have a graduate (PhD) program and have a regular seminar program. We are closely allied with the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, with whom we participate in an inter-institutional PhD program in Biomedical Engineering and Medical Physics. This program provides graduate students with the opportunity to work at the intersection of engineering sciences, biology, and medicine.
Admissions to the Program.
Applicants may apply to the program through either UMMS or WPI. While there are no specific prerequisites, applicants should have a strong background in engineering, physical sciences or mathematics.
