Welcome to the Bioinformatics Core

The newly established Bioinformatics Core at UMMS consists of a team of bioinformatics analysts and software engineers dedicated to providing comprehensive bioinformatics and computational infrastructure support for the biomedical research at UMMS.

What we do

The core facility provides a wide range of computational services to assist researchers in analyzing data generated from next-gen sequencing studies (ChIPSeq, RNASeq, small RNA sequencing, exome and whole genome sequencing), microarray studies (gene chips, tiling arrays, SNP arrays) and, in the future, proteomics, siRNA/HTS, cheminformatics studies. We also offer expertise in developing databases, scientific data visualization applications, novel algorithms, and custom computational pipelines. Besides analytical services and collaborations, a portion of our time is devoted to developing general computational infrastructures at UMMS such as BioLIMS, lab specific Genome Browsers and Galaxy analysis pipelines.

In conjunction with the Program in Bioinformatics and Integrative Biology, the core facility also contributes to bioinformatics education at UMMS by providing workshops on common bioinformatics and programming topics. Rotation projects will be offered to graduate students interested in obtaining bioinformatics research experience.

The operation of the Bioinformatics Core is funded through CTSA and OVPR as well as additional cost sharing mechanisms such as fee-for-service and grant-based research collaborations.
