TTS Required Training 

In order to apply for certification as a Tobacco Treatment Specialist, the following training must be completed:

Basic Skills for Working with Smokers Online Course 

Includes the following topics: 

  • Public health implications of tobacco use
  • Health consequences of smoking/Benefits of quitting
  • Nicotine addiction: criteria for dependency, treatment implications
  • Types and use of pharmacological products
  • How to conduct a brief intervention (5A model)
  • How to talk to your clients about their tobacco use and motivate them to quit
  • Creating an environment supportive of tobacco treatment services

This course is self-paced and may be started at any time.  Cost: $125.  Please see our  Cancellation Policy .

  Note that; 
  1. If you register for Basic Skills Online Course for Working with Smokers on or before  June 30th, 2007, you will have until October 31st 2007, to complete the course. 
  2. For persons registering for the Basic Skills Online Course on July 1, 2007 and after,  you will have six (6) months from the time you register to complete the course. 

Registration Information for Basic Skills Online Course for Working with Smokers: 

Please allow at least 5 business days for your registration to be processed. Note carefully that your log on information (i.e. password and username) will be emailed to the email address you have provided. So please double check to make sure you've entered the right email address. Also for those using organizations/company's email addresses, there could be a spam filter that prevents you from receiving emails. We advise that you check your junk mail to see if log on information has been filtered as a junk mail.

  • Counseling Theory and Practice
  • Treatment Strategies
  • Working with High Risk Populations (Mental Illness, Substance Abuse and Medical Conditions)
  • Intake, Assessment and Treatment Planning

The Core Certification training is offered two times a year, Spring and Fall, in Worcester, MA for a fee of $800 (MA Resident) or $950 (non-MA Resident).  For schedule information, call 508-856-2935, or go to the "Scheduled Training" section.  Please see our Cancellation Policy below. 


CANCELLATION POLICY:   

For Basic Skills Online Course:   There is no refund once payment has been received.  Substitution may be permitted if coursework has not yet been initiated.

For TTS Core Certification Training:  If you cancel your registration 2 weeks prior to the course, your fee is refundable less a $50 processing charge.  After that date NO refunds will be given.
