A study on weight loss, for women with depression

What is the Be Active! Study?

This is a research study that offers a free weight loss program to women who are depressed and would like to lose weight.

Our specialists will help participants monitor their diet, set weight loss goals, develop a physical activity program, and learn about barriers to weight loss. In addition to a structured weight loss program, each participant will be assigned an individual behavioral counselor OR health education counselor.

How long is the study?

Study participation lasts for 2 years.  The program starts with weekly visits for the first 6 months, and then monthly visits for the next 6 months. During the second year, we continue to follow-up with participants to assist with weight loss.

Who qualified for the Be Active! Study?

Women who:

  • are between the ages of 21-65
  • are currently feeling depressed or down
  • would like to lose weight
