Clinical Training Opportunities


Clinical training opportunities to enhance clinical skills are available through a variety of programs.  These include the Division's Stress Reduction Clinic, the Center for Tobacco Treatment Research and Training, the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society (CFM), the Center for Integrative Nutrition, the UMass Memorial Medical Center Weight Center and other related clinical and teaching services in the Department of Medicine. Clinical emphases include developing strategies to cope with stress and stress-related medical problems, improving adaptation to existing disease and conditions, developing the knowledge and skills to effectively treat nicotine dependence, and developing the knowledge and skills to address nutrition needs in medical populations as well as weight management and weight loss.

Individuals interested in gaining experience in the clinical aspects of preventive and behavioral medicine may participate in:

  • Rotations in outpatient cardiovascular nutrition clinics
  • Cardiac rehabilitation nutrition and cooking classes
  • Monthly primary care/general medicine clinical conferences
  • A longitudinal experience in the stress reduction program
  • Training in tobacco dependence treatment
