About the Division
The mission of the Division of Preventive and Behavioral Medicine is to enhance the health of the public through teaching, research, policy, and service in health promotion, disease prevention, and adaptation to illness.
Welcome to the website of the Division of Preventive and Behavioral Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. It is designed to meet a wide range of needs for information about us for both the public at large and for health professionals interested in aspects of our work. Our e-mail address is PrevBehavMed@umassmed.edu. We will update the website periodically to reflect the ongoing changes in the Division and to provide timely information about our research, training/educational programs and clinical programs of interest to the public and to the community of preventive and behavioral medicine scientists.
The Division of Preventive and Behavioral Medicine was founded in 1983 by Judith K. Ockene, Ph.D., M.Ed., M.A. It is supported by NIH grants, foundation grants, funding from voluntary organizations and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health; revenue from clinical services and educational programs; and funding from the Department of Medicine and the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
