Resident Benefits
Certifications
Residents' certifications are kept current in BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), with the option in their senior year of acquiring PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) certifications.
Educational Allowance
Resident memberships in the American Society of Anesthesiologists and any other anesthesia-related societies in which they choose to become a member are paid for by the department.
Each resident is also given an educational allowance to be used to purchase books and learning instruments needed during their residency. The educational allowance is larger in the senior year, as the resident may use it for meeting fees and expenses.
Meeting/Interview Time
In the senior year, the resident is given five meeting days to attend a professional or scientific meeting, and three personal days for interviewing purposes.
