When my father returned from World War II as a veteran, he had an invigorated zest for education and teaching.  I imagine much of my delight from these pursuits is from both inherited and learned behaviors!

I have always enjoyed learning and training, including instructing my children (as teenagers of course) to drive an automobile.  I started my career working with residents at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston.  After a few years, I opted to work in a private practice community hospital. For some twenty years I stayed in that setting, with added administrative responsibilities (as the chair) for over half of those years.  I was happy to help start a clinical teaching site for SRNA’s during that time.  In 2008 I joined the UMass Memorial staff, and now have the opportunity to work with residents again, in the fairly unique setting of a small community hospital in Marlborough.

Despite its small size, Marlborough Hospital has a busy ER and ICU, a hospitalist program, and many specialists that add to the variety of diagnoses and procedures encountered. Residents generally come to Marlborough later in their residencies.  This affords them the chance to continue to hone their skills while adapting to a very different setting.  In addition to interacting with residents to manage anesthetics, I use my background to help give residents another viewpoint to facilitate them weighing the many facets of differing job settings for their future career decisions.
