Principal Investigator: Alan L. Rothman, M.D.
Sponsor: University of Massachusetts Medical School Center for Infectious Disease and Vaccine Research.
Purpose of Research
The purpose of this research is to study how certain white blood cells called T-lymphocytes respond to viral infections. Patients are asked to donate blood prior to the vaccinia immunization and on subsequent days after the immunization. A total of no more than 420 mL of blood will be collected over a 10-week period.
Subjects are invited to take part because they are either:
- scheduled to receive a vaccinia immunization as part of their laboratory requirements, or
- are currently healthy and have expressed an interest in serving as a control for the above study
