Area Health Education Center Of Southeastern Massachusetts

AHEC of Southeastern Massachusetts  is a program of Health Care of Southeastern Massachusetts, Inc. 

Southeastern Massachusetts is one of the AHEC training session fastest growing culturally and linguistically diverse regions of the state. AHEC of Southeastern Massachusetts seeks to address health disparities and meet the unique needs of our diverse communities. 

Working to Meet Community Health Care Needs Through

  Diversity  Promoting the importance of and working to increase diversity in health-related professions. 
 Training  Supporting the training of healthcare professionals and students with a focus on underserved communities. 
  Resources  Providing information, resources, educational opportunities and area-specific technical assistance to healthcare workers, provider agencies, as well as educational institutions. 
  Prevention  Promoting relevant local, culturally and linguistically competent disease prevention efforts that focus on populations and localities in greatest need. 

Highlights

Trained 45 new medical interpreters for local hospitals and health centers.

Developed and implemented dozens of customized trainings for local hospitals, health centers, correctional facilities, schools and community based agencies on topics ranging from HIV/AIDS and Lupus, to cultural diversity and customer service.

Collaborated with local coalitions to implement local conferences, needs assessments, and other efforts to address regional health issues.

The Lower/Outer Cape Cod Coalition developed a collaborative relationship with the Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center and offered a training session on "googling" geriatrics in the fall of 2004.

Conducted Health Careers Summer Camp for middle school students which included
