A ribbon cutting ceremony on September 15 celebrated theopening of the newly redesigned Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Antoinette McCabe Family-Centered Suite, honoring the donor who gave $1 million for the project. With a goal to provide a more soothing and calm atmosphere, enhance our family-centered environment and allow parents to stay with their babies in the hospital 24 hours a day, the redesign will benefit the hundreds of families who rely on our state-of-the-art Newborn Intensive Care Unit. Today, as health care has evolved into a community responsibility, donor support is what allows us to further enhance our facilities and the care we provide to patients and their families. To that end, we are actively continuing to seek community support for the additional $1 million needed for this capital improvement project.
The 18th Annual Tee Up for Tots Golf Tournament was held on August 9th to benefit the UMass Memorial Newborn Intensive Care Unit, drawing more than 120 golfers and 200 dinner guests. A total of $89,000 was raised through tournament proceeds, sponsorships and a fabulous silent and live auction. Beginning last year and continuing for the next two years, funds raised from the tournament are helping to fund the NICU redesign aimed to add more space for family-centered care in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit located on the Memorial Campus.
Since the UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center’s NICU was founded in 1974, it has earned a national reputation for its unique philosophy of family-centered care. The NICU redesign demonstrates our commitment to continuously enhance family-centered care and promises to ensure our facilities, technology and equipment will be some of the finest in the region.
