Annual Massachusetts Adoption Survey
This multi-year survey project created and continually expands a database on the nature and number of both private and public adoptions in Massachusetts. CAR staff have designed and implemented a survey-based data collection system to gather comprehensive adoption statistics for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The study is currently in its sixth year of data collection. Continued updates have been made to the survey in past years in response to changing trends in adoption practices. The current database includes five years of data from over 50 private agencies and the Department of Social Services (DSS)

Adoption in Massachusetts: Private and Public Agency Placements and Practices
CAR publishes a report about adoption agencies’ adoption placement and practices annually. Every licensed adoption agency in Massachusetts is asked to review their records to complete a survey about their adoption practices. The surveys are sent to CAR where they are examined for completeness, entered into a database, analyzed, and synthesized into a final report. This process can take several months.
