A Message from the Director

Welcome to the Office of Foster Care and Adoption at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Our program is part of Commonwealth Medicine, a division of the Medical School that is dedicated to providing state and federal public sector colleagues and non-profit clients access to an unparalleled depth and breadth of academic, research, management, and clinical resources.

The Office and its staff are dedicated to developing practical responses to improve foster care and adoption policy and practice by developing education and training programs, and by conducting research and policy analysis.

We believe that the translation of research findings with an eye toward policy and practice implications is critical to inform policy makers and practitioners whose work impacts the lives of children and families including birth, foster, and adoptive involved in the foster care system and those children and families connected through adoption.

Like so many Americans and people worldwide, many of OFCAs staff have personal connections to foster care and adoption.  Therefore, the passion and drive for our work comes from both a personal and professional commitment to improve foster care and adoption policy and practice in an effort to improve the lives of children and families.

I hope you find our website useful and informative.  Feel free to contact our staff at CAR@umassmed.edu for more information about any of our programs or products.  Thank you for your interest in the Office of Foster Care and Adoption at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
