Douglas M. Ziedonis, MD, MPH, received his MD degree from Pennsylvania State University Medical School and his MPH degree from Yale University School of Public Health. He is a Diplomat in Psychiatry, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and is board certified in Addiction Psychiatry.
Dr. Ziedonis is recognized as one of the "Best Doctors in America" and as national expert on helping individuals with depression who also have problems with alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs. He has co-edited three books including Integrated Treatment for Mood and Substance Use Disorders and 5 behavioral therapy manuals, including his Dual Recovery Therapy approach for depression and addiction.
Dr. Ziedonis is internationally regarded for his cutting edge research in co-occurring mental illness and addiction. His research on depression and addiction has included medication development, behavioral therapy development, and health services research. He has written over 100 peer-reviewed publications and chapters. He is the recipient of numerous awards and grants from the NIMH, NIDA, CSAT, Foundations, and other agencies. He has served as an advisor to the President’s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health and as a Senior Fellow for SAMHSA’s Co-Occurring Disorders Center for Excellence. He has served on the American Psychiatric Association’s Practice Guidelines Work Group on Substance Used Disorders and Council on Addictions. Most recently, Dr. Ziedonis served on the Massachusett Governor’s Heroin and Oxycontin Commission and the Institute of Medicine Committee on Gulf War and Health.
