The First Year (PGY-2)

Resident Jiaying Zhang with White Board

During this year, residents spend the greatest portion of their time on the inpatient neurology unit, the vascular service, and on the consultation service at the University Campus. In these positions they become comfortable performing the neurologic examination and mastering the basic management of acute neurologic illness before assuming greater responsibilities as senior residents. The first year also includes a weekly general neurology continuity clinic and three Resident Lucia Rivera Laramonths of elective. Popular electives during this first year include Neuro-Radiology, EEG and EMG, some of the basic skill sets of Neurological care. Night call occurs on a flexible schedule with an average of 55 calls over the first year, or on an average of just slightly less than once each week.
