- About Growing Green
The sustainability effort at UMMS includes a range of educational and outreach programs all year long. The principal sustainability communications tool is the Growing Green e-newsletter, which is distributed bimonthly to more than 10,000 people associated with the UMass Academic Health Sciences Center. Growing Green includes news and information about sustainability initiatives and offers practical insights to help everyone in the community make better decisions about how they use resources.
Earth Day is always a fun day at the Medical School. In 2011, more than 1,000 people from all corners of the University Campus streamed through the Earth Day event, where almost 50 local organizations and campus departments offered a full spectrum of products, services and information to help the community grow a little greener.

It will sound like common sense, but sometimes we need to remind ourselves of the simple steps we all can take to help reduce energy consumption, promote recycling and reuse of materials, and in general lower the carbon foot print of our growing campus. Look at these Green Tips from the UMass Sustainability Committee as well as tips, ideas and anecdotes from others on campus who are taking action to help the Medical School grow green.
