Edward Keohane appointed Vice Chancellor for Communications

WORCESTER, Mass.—Award-winning television journalist Edward J. Keohane has been named Vice Chancellor for Communications for the University of Massachusetts Medical School. The appointment was announced today by Michael F. Collins, MD, Chancellor of the Medical School and Senior Vice President for the Health Sciences for the University of Massachusetts.

Keohane comes to UMass Medical School from CNN in New York where he was a managing producer for the network’s flagship morning show, “American Morning.” During his time at CNN, Keohane covered major news events, including the 2008 presidential election, for which he and his CNN team were honored with a George Foster Peabody Award; the inauguration of President Barack Obama; and the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India.

Prior to his time at CNN, Keohane, a native of Milton, Massachusetts, worked as a producer for WCVB-TV, the ABC affiliate in Boston. He produced a variety of award-winning newscasts while reporting on notable stories, including the 2004 presidential election, the Big Dig tunnel collapse and Hurricane Katrina. Keohane also helped manage the launch of WCVB’s highly successful weekend morning show.

As Vice Chancellor for Communications, Keohane will serve as a member of the Chancellor’s senior staff and oversee all communications functions for UMass Medical School and its various related entities.
