Thank you for your interest in the UMass Fitchburg Family Medicine Residency!

Our program continues its tradition of providing superior Family Medicine residency training in the North Worcester County area as it has for nearly 30 years. We know that selecting a site for your residency training can be daunting, with many factors to consider. I'd like to point out a few things that make our program special in Massachusetts and New England:

UMass Fitchburg is community-based and uses a progressive, award winning community hospital for its primary clinical rotations.

UMass’ Department of Family Medicine and Community Health is nationally recognized as one of the top 10 academic centers for Primary Care. We are able to take advantage of all the resources of a major academic center and we offer an academically stimulating program.

We recognize the importance of family and quality of life for our residents. Only 6 of 12 rotations during the first year include overnight call, and call is only about once a week during the second year, only 2-3 times a month during third year.

We are dually accredited by the ACGME and by the AOA. Our osteopathic (DO) residents are provided continued training and supervision in osteopathic manipulative medicine, which enhances our allopathic training and patient care.

Our health center is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (Community Health Connections), serving the medically underserved of the North Worcester County of Massachusetts. Extensive ancillary services are located on-site, including Behavioral Health, Dental, and Urgent Care, as well as Radiology, Physical Therapy, and a Cancer Center through the hospital.

Our Behavioral Health Department is nationally recognized for extensive collaboration with the medical providers. Primary care-oriented psychologists and psychiatrists support the care of patients with mental illness, chronic disease management, and behavioral issues affecting care, such as smoking, non-adherence, and drug dependence.

I hope that you will decide to apply to our program. Please take advantage of the information our website offers and feel free to contact me anytime for more information. We hope to hear from you!
