The Family Medicine Hospitalist Service

The Family Medicine Hospitalist Service was established in July of 2005 and currently employs 7 physicians. The busy service discharges approximately 1200 patients per year. The hospitalist group has a dual focus of providing comprehensive, family-centered patient care and implementing an evidence-based resident-centered education model. The service performs procedures such as nuclear stress testing, paracentesis, thoracentesis, central venous lines and lumbar punctures.

Our faculty has been awarded the residents’ Inpatient Teaching Award every year since its inception. In addition to intensive teaching on bedside rounds, didactic teaching includes a series of lectures based on the 20 core competencies of hospital medicine set forth by the Society of Hospital Medicine.

The Hospitalist faculty have demonstrated a level of professional service at both the local and national levels. Many members of our team serve as peer reviewers for national journals, present at national meetings and hold prominent positions within the AAFP and Society of Hospital Medicine.
