Longitudinal Electives

Longitudinal electives in Sports Medicine, Adolescent Medicine, Group Pre-natal visits, Women's Health, Geriatrics, Faculty Development, Procedures and other areas of interest are available for residents to gain extra experience and expertise in selected areas within Family Medicine.

International Health Electives

We think that electives in International Health, especially in countries reflective of immigrant populations in the US, are an important vehicle for better learning about and caring for your immigrant patients. Therefore, we have established programs in Central and South America, Africa and Portugal where residents can do electives. Travel stipends are available for a small number of residents each year. We are also in the process of developing a longitudinal track in global health that will combine international electives with domestic electives that enhance residents’ ability to provide care abroad.

Rural Electives

Rural electives offer an opportunity to work closely with a family physician in small town rural practice. The residents are involved in office practice, inpatient and nursing home admissions and rounds, as well as home visits when appropriate. Opportunities are available to work with a nurse midwife and integrative health providers. Rural electives are available at Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket and other locations.
