STEM Expo
The Central MA STEM Network presented the 2nd annual STEM Expo in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Middle School Science and Engineering Fair at the Worcester Technical High School in Worcester on Saturday, June 6, 2009. Over 500 students, parents, teachers and STEM professionals from all across the Commonwealth enjoyed meeting the presenters, doing activities and hearing first hand about the work that these organizations do every day.
The STEM Expo featured local employers such as Intel, University of Massachusetts Medical School, MASS MEP, and Quinsigamond Community College showcasing engineering, medicine, biomedical research, and advanced manufacturing opportunities. The Optical Society of America, New England Chapter engaged students and adults alike with optical equipment and activities. The Colleges of the Worcester Consortium held a well-attended workshop for parents on college admissions and financial aid. For those who wanted to see the state of the art Technical High School, tours of the school were given. The Central MA Regional Employment Board presented their new STEM project.
During the STEM Expo, the Chair of the Central MA STEM Network, Robert Richardson of Intel, presented the organization’s first STEMMY Awards to students who developed exemplary communication projects that raised awareness of the many careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
We are looking forward to the 3rd annual STEM Expo in 2010.
