Professional Development

The RSRC is dedicated to providing teachers and administrators with professional development opportunities which increase their understanding of mathematics and science and support their teaching of students. Courses are offered during the summer. Quarterly network meetings provide ongoing opportunities for teachers and administrators to meet and discuss classroom issues during the school year.

MTEL Prep

The middle school MTEL preparation course will be held starting after February vacation after school. The high school MTEL preparation course will begin late June for several mornings a week. All will be at the Regional Science Resource Center in Shrewsbury. To be added to an e-mail list for the announcement of the exact dates and the beginning of the 2010 registration period, please e-mail Holly at Holly.Boudreau@umassmed.edu . Please indicate which course you are interested in, either middle school or high school.

Central Massachusetts Curriculum Coordinators' Network

The Central MA Curriculum Coordinators Network is designed to support curriculum leaders through collaboration, discussion, and professional development opportunities. Network meetings are held quarterly, with meeting agendas based upon participant need. Agenda topics from past meetings included the following: Standards-Based Report Cards, Grant Writing, Curriculum Mapping, Action Research, and Research-Based Professional Development. The Network also has an e-mail list-serve designated to facilitate discussion and communicate upcoming events and opportunities.

AP Biology

The AP Biology Network was initiated this fall for any interested AP Biology teachers. The meetings, held four times throughout the year, will address interests, questions, and issues of the participating teachers. There is no charge and all teachers, veteran and novice, are invited to join the group.

AP Calculus

The AP Calculus Network is facilitated by Pat Scenna, Westborough Public Schools (retired), and Carol Hynes, Leominster Public Schools (retired). Network meetings include opportunities to explore calculus content, find out about updates and changes to the AP exam, and ask questions of facilitators and colleagues. If there are new AP teachers in your district and other districts that you know, please extend an invitation for them to join us. Please feel free to bring along copies of resources you would like to share with the group.

October's meeting will include the following:
* Review of the 2009 Exam Scoring Guides
* Problems that use graphical and numerical stems
* Time for questions and discussion

High School Chemistry

The CHEMISTRY NETWORK was instituted this school year by high school chemistry teachers interested in sharing ideas with other teachers. The group meets four times per year with local chemistry teachers to have discussions and share lab protocols with others, as well as looking at labs that work well to investigate concepts, and assessment methods and policies. This newly formed group is always looking for new members and ideas to share. There is no charge and all teachers, veterans and novice, are invited to join the group.
