Giving to the Program in Molecular Medicine

Research laboratories in Molecular Medicine are actively engaged in discoveries on the molecular basis of disease as well as developing therapies for major illnesses…for example…

Diabetes—Molecular Medicine researchers are developing approaches to treating the autoimmunity of type 1 diabetes, using RNAi to silence genes active in the immune system. Researchers have also developed stem cell-based approaches to developing mouse model systems to better understand human autoimmunity.

AIDS—Researchers in Molecular Medicine have identified a protein that may serve as a drug target for inhibiting HIV. Drug-like small molecules have been discovered here that effectively inhibit this protein, providing proof of concept for this approach in future possible therapies.
