UMass MD/PhD Program invites approximately 40 candidates to campus for interviews. If you are selected, you will be contacted via email and asked to select from several dates for your interview day. Formal interviews have a one-day schedule, from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm. MD/PhD interviews cover both the MD and PhD portions of your application and you will not need to schedule additional interviews for the MD application.

The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences provides travel funds for interviews. Applicants to the MD/PhD Program will be provided local lodging accommodations for Thursday and Friday night.

The process begins with a light dinner with a small group of graduate school faculty on Thursday evening.  Friday your interview day will begin with a morning meeting with the Program Directors to talk about the structure and unique aspects of the UMass program. During the day you will have formal interviews with medical and research faculty.  Lunch will be provided as part of an orientation with the School of Medicine, followed by a tour of the medical school facility including the anatomy labs, the simulations center and emergency room.  You meet again with the Program Directors to wrap up the day and they will invite you to convey your questions and comments about the program and the admissions process.

Several current MD/PhD students, both medical and graduate, meet with the candidates at the end of the interview day for an informal, meeting and dinner.  It provides a relaxed opportunity to meet you and answer questions about MD/PhD Program at UMass.

When offered an interview, we request that you send us a short list of research faculty you are interested in meeting and every effort will be made to accommodate those requests.  You should use these meetings to learn about our faculty and potential research opportunities. You can familiarize yourself with faculty research interests through the graduate school website at http://www.umassmed.edu/gsbs/faculty/index.aspx.
