Surgical Pathology Fellowship
Description: We offer two one-year ACGME-accredited (selective pathology) fellowships designed to provide focused and intensive training in surgical pathology for the transition from residency to practice. The fellowship offers training in an academic, tertiary care medical center and is based in the division of Anatomic Pathology, which is equipped with state of the art laboratories and accessions approximately 55,000 surgical and 64000 cytology specimens per year. The attending staff includes 15 full-time specialty-oriented surgical pathologists, hematopathologists, dermatopathologists and a neuropathologist.
The Training Includes:
- Participation in daily diagnostic sign- out on surgical pathology cases
- Performing frozen sections at various UMassMemorial campuses. In the second half of the fellowship Fellows are given hospital credentials so that they may perform frozen sections independently.
- Elective rotations through the specialty services, signing out cases under the supervision of the attending specialist.
- Fellows participate in departmental and interdepartmental conferences, as well as medical student and resident teaching. Fellows present cases in the weekly multidisciplinary Breast conference and GI Tumor board
- Fellows are encouraged to undertake research projects and departmental resources and support are available for clinicopathologic and translational research projects.
- There are opportunities for experience in the diagnostic application of special techniques such as flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry and molecular diagnostics
Requirements:
- Applicants must have completed a four-year AP/CP residency or three years of a straight AP residency
- Passed Step III of the USMLE or the National Board Exam and be eligible for full Massachusetts license.
