Health Insurance Information for Students, Employees and Medical Residents
The state of Massachusetts has health insurance requirements for all students, employees and medical residents. In addition, the U.S. Department of State mandates that all J-1 Exchange Visitors carry an appropriate level of health insurance coverage.
Failure to comply with Massachusetts state regulations may result in state tax penalties and failure to comply with J- Exchange Visitor regulations can result in the termination of legal immigration status in the United States.
UMMS Graduate Students
UMMS graduate students may consider enrolling in a health insurance program offered through the graduate school. Please contact the Graduate School directly for information on how to enroll in this plan. Students who arrange health coverage through another company, need to complete a waiver form which is available in the Bursars Office. The health insurance plan offered to students meets both the Massachusetts state minimums and the J-1 Exchange Visitor minimums, where applicable.
