Worcester Pipeline Initiatives - ASCEND 2001-2002

The Worcester Pipeline Collaborative is proud to announce its ASCEND Initiative funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).

The ASCEND Initiative extends the Worcester Pipeline Collaborative's after school programs for:

  • North High School and Worcester Vocational High School students. 
  • Worcester East Middle School and the WPC Science Club at Plumley Village  
  • ASCEND Summer Opportunities  
 

ASCEND Initiative 2002
After School Centers for Exploration and New Discovery

The Worcester Pipeline Collaborative (WPC) is proud to announce its ASCEND Initiative funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).

The ASCEND Initiative extends the Worcester Pipeline Collaborative's summer programs for North High School and Worcester Vocational High School students.

WPC ASCEND Initiative offers...

  • After school and summer laboratory internships for research projects.
  • Paid fellowships for research projects, $1,000.00 per student, (3 students from North High School and 3 students from Worcester Vocational High School).
  • Additional opportunities to:
    • Visit the WPC science laboratory.
    • Present projects at local and regional science fairs.

WPC ASCEND Initiative requires...

  • Teachers and/or school administrators to refer students to the program.
  • Fellowship students to participate in full-time positions (40 hrs) for 8 weeks.

  • Paid fellowships for research projects, $1,000.00 per student, (4 students from North High School and 4 students from Worcester Vocational High School).
  • Additional opportunities to:
    • Participate in after school science clubs.
    • Visit the WPC science laboratory.
    • Present projects at local and regional science fairs.

WPC ASCEND Initiative requires...

  • Teachers and/or school administrators to refer students to the program
  • Fellowship students to participate 6 to 8 hours weekly for 8 months.
  • Students in Science Clubs to participate 2 hours each week.

Faculty Note

Two after school faculty positions available to guide research projects and to teach the after school science club (Four hours weekly for 30 weeks).
