“I learned how to become a good interpreter, maintain a professional attitude and be accurate.  I learned how to deal with discrimination and how to serve both the provider and client.”

J.P., Laotian interpreter

Customized Training Program

Based on factors such as size and complexity, an organization may prefer to develop a customized medical interpreter program. The Office of Community Program (OCP) can provide assistance in creating a program that addresses the unique needs of your organization. Once the program is developed, the actual training of staff can occur in one of two ways:

  • Our staff provides the on-site program training
  • Our staff helps you to create the systems and infrastructure to run the program with internal staff.

Regardless of the training approach, developing an effective program includes the following elements:

  • Community assessment of language group needs
  • Internal assessment of institutional needs
  • Establishment of a delivery system
  • Training and competency measures
  • Evaluation
