Course Offerings

Since 2001, the Office of Community Programs (OCP) has trained over 300 medical interpreters annually. Our instructors are highly qualified and our programs have been nationally recognized for their excellence. We cater to a wide variety of interpreter skill levels, offering courses for both the beginner student and experienced interpreters. Training is available either on-site by our faculty or at scheduled workshops sponsored by our affiliated statewide network of Area Health Education Centers (AHECs).

Our course offerings include:

These participatory courses prepare students for more accurate medical interpreting within the Standards of Practice developed by the National Council on Medical Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC). Participants gain an understanding of the American Health Care System and are able to sharpen their skills by role-playing scenarios in clinical settings, as well as emergency situations. Students develop an understanding of the impact of cross cultural communication skills. The program explores topics such common diseases, infectious diseases, and practical applications in health care.

Letter of Completion

Upon successful completion of training and receipt of payment, a Certificate and Letter of Completion is awarded.
