Introductory Course - 15 Hour
This 15-hour program provides an introduction to the basic skills used during the triadic interview. The curriculum includes topics such as interpreting skills, code of ethics, triadic and cross cultural communication skills, medical terminology and professional protocols.
- Basic skills for successful interpreting in Primary Care setting
- How to develop effective triadic (client-provider-interpreter) relationships
- Professional ethics
- Working in a cross-cultural setting
- Medical terminology in target languages
Who Should Attend
Bilingual staff/volunteers who wish to develop a basic understanding of the principles of interpreting and increase their knowledge of medical terminology. (This course does not prepare participants to assume the role of a medical interpreter in accordance with national standards.)
Registration
Pre-registration and an entry assessment are required for admission. Early sign up early is recommended as class size is often limited.
