New Learning Management System
The University has moved to a new learning management system—BlackBoard Learn (BBLearn). A key component of this move was an opportunity for our campus to design a UMMS template across all schools. Information Services worked with students, faculty, and educational leadership on the design. Blackboard Learn 9 offers modern technology that fosters active teaching and learning, and easy integration of all types of content. All new classes will be taught in Bb Learn 9 beginning May, 2013.
Student Laptop Program
The UMMS Student Laptop Program was implemented in Fall 2010. Currently it is a requirement for the School of Medicine. All incoming students can purchase new or continue to use what they have already purchased not more than three years ago. The Minimum System Requirements we have outlined for you will ensure that your laptop serves as a portal to Computer-Based Testing and all digital resources including online courses, streaming lectures and podcasts, Virtual Microscopy slides and digital lecture notes which can be personalized and annotated.
In order for students to successfully access these and other tools, custom computer settings and programs are necessary. This becomes especially critical during computer-based testing where we used a secure lockdown browser. Information Services and the educational community collaborated to create an inventory of software and customizations for both the Windows and Macintosh environments.
