Information for Sample Submission
To schedule your project or schedule instrument time, please fill out our Online Submission Form (below and to the right).
For initial project inquiries, project consultation or to ask a question concerning the Online Submission Form, please email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org
All other questions can be directed to the Laboratory Manager, Karin Green (email@example.com).
All services are initiated by the above process and are subject to approval by the Facility Director. Most new projects require a consultation prior to initiation of work. Consultations include advice on the best experimental approach, timing of the experiment, sample preparation and charges. Samples are accepted only after the project has been approved and the Online Submission Form completed.
The Facility will not accept BIOHAZARDOUS and RADIOLABELED samples.
RG-3 or select agents (http://www.selectagents.gov) WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED unless inactivated by a process approved by an Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC).
Guidelines for submitting samples for protein analysis
Excised gel bands should be placed in 0.5 ml microcentrifuge tubes previously washed with 1% formic acid in 50% ethanol for 5 minutes (discard wash).
****Keratin contamination will always be observed.
Precautions must be taken to minimize contamination****
1. Wear gloves at all times and work with a mask or shield when cutting gel bands.
2. Thoroughly wash and methanol rinse anything that will come in contact with the sample, i.e., gel apparatus, staining trays, gel excising equipment and tubes. Rinse the microcentrifuge tube and its cap with 1% formic acid in 50% ethanol before putting in the gel band.
Guidelines for shipping
In general, most samples should be shipped in a sealed container containing dry ice. For compliance on packaging and transport of hazardous substances see IATA (http://www.iata.org/whatwedo/cargo/dangerous_goods/Pages/infectious_substances.aspx) and DOT (http://www.phmsa.dot.gov/hazmat) for additional guidance.
