Pamela SenesacPamela M. Senesac, Ph.D., S.M., R.N.

Director, Performance Improvement

Pamela M. Senesac leads the development, design, implementation, and evaluation of performance improvement initiatives in the clinical services programs and across UMass Medical School’s health care consulting division, Commonwealth Medicine. As Director of Performance Improvement, she oversees quality management initiatives, focusing on the development of an organization-wide infrastructure, and provides project-specific quality management consultation to internal and external customers. Dr. Senesac is an Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Nursing, University of Massachusetts, Worcester.

Prior to joining the Center for Health Policy and Research in 2009, Dr. Senesac was Associate Director for Academic Affairs and Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Nursing at Massachusetts General Hospital’s Institute of Health Professions. She was responsible for administrative oversight of academic operations as well as student enrollment and progression. She also oversaw the development and accreditation of two new program models, doubling student enrollment over two years.

While working for Harvard Pilgrim Health Care from 1996 to 2004, Dr. Senesac held risk management positions of increasing responsibility. She analyzed provider data, managed the process of reviewing adverse incidents and member concerns, and maintained compliance with risk management protocols.

Earlier in her career, she held positions as the Associate Director of a community mental health center and as the Director of a state mental hospital inpatient unit.

Dr. Senesac has been an Executive Board Member of the Roy Adaptation Association, a group of nursing scholars, since 2001. She has lectured and published articles on this nursing model, which considers individual patients as interrelated biological, psychological, and social systems.
Dr. Senesac earned a doctorate in nursing from Boston College. In addition to a master’s degree in health services administration from Harvard University School of Public Health, she holds a master’s in psychiatric mental health nursing from Boston University. She received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Georgetown University. A registered nurse since 1973, Dr. Senesac also holds certification as a health care quality professional from the Healthcare Quality Certification Board, San Gabriel, Calif.
