About the UMass Center for
Clinical and Translational Science

In the summer 2010, UMass Medical School was notified that it would receive a prestigious $20 million Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to create an academic home for clinical and translational science across all five UMass campuses.

Known as the UMass Center for Clinical and Translational Science (UMCCTS), the award places UMass and the medical school's clinical partner, UMass Memorial Health Care, among an elite consortium of 60 nationally prominent academic medical centers working to move laboratory discoveries into treatments for patients, to engage communities in clinical research, and to train a new generation of researchers.  Through the center, we hope to facilitate greater efficiency and productivity of UMass investigators across campuses, as each strives to make the greatest possible impact in translational research and the broader life sciences.

All UMass faculty participating in any form of translational research may join the UMCCTS.  Members receive many benefits, such as eligibility to apply for special pilot grant programs, reduced rates for use of research core services, use of the Medical School Library, and access to electronic resources of the UMass Amherst libraries and other UMCCTS consultation services.  Members are added to our mailing list and receive notice of special events and opportunities.
