SUBJECT:Response to Earthquake in Haiti

The devastating earthquake in Haiti has captured our minds and hearts. It has also personally touched members of our community who have loved ones in the country and regularly travel there.

As the massive relief effort gains momentum, many members of our UMass Memorial hospitals and UMass Medical School have asked how they can help, be it with their medical expertise or financial support.

We wanted to share with you ways in which you can channel your generosity:

The White House recommends giving cash donations through the International Red Cross.

The Greater Worcester Community Foundation has compiled a list of suggested relief organizations that are collecting funds in support of Haitian relief. The list also offers information on how medical professionals can volunteer to participate in the relief effort.

Our Medical School's Office of Global Health and Commonwealth Medicine have connections to the region and are working to stay in touch with those people and offer support.

At this time our DMAT team has not been called up but, as always, stands ready for immediate deployment when the request comes.

Understandably, details on how we can all respond are still developing and as we learn more we will bring this information to you.
